Oct. 10, 2016 8 a.m. Hurricane Matthew outage update

Article was added on Monday, October 10, 2016

From stacy

Santee Electric Cooperative crews continue to work to restore electricity in the wake of Hurricane Matthew. The cooperative now has 39,356 members without electricity. There are 7,412 outages in Clarendon County, 9,294 in Florence County, 11,432 in Georgetown County and 11,218 in Williamsburg County who do not have electricity.

The reason progress seems to be slow is because only half of our substations are energized. Santee Electric Cooperative is one of 20 distribution cooperatives in South Carolina.

Crews began work again before daylight after getting into our office in the early morning hours. Some of these men slept on cots and blow up mattresses because hotels are booked, flooded or don't have electricity.

Even with more than 200 men helping, it is slow going for crews who literally cut their way down roads to determine the type of damage to the power system. They have been making repairs to primary power lines.

With no control over when transmission is restored or specific details on all damages, Santee Electric Cooperative cannot give any estimates of when power will be restored. Please be patient.

Santee Electric Co-op serves the rural parts of Clarendon, Florence, Georgetown and Williamsburg Counties. Outage maps can be viewed at www.santee.org . Outages can be reported at www.santee.org , on the SmartHub app, using TextPower or at 1-888-239-2300. A map of cooperative outages across the state can be found at https://outages.ecsc.org/outages/maps
