SEC Job Opening - Vice President of Public Affairs

Santee Electric Cooperative has an opening for the position of Vice President of Public Affairs.  The position description is below.  Interested candidates should submit their resume and a letter of interest to Cheryl Wrenn (cwrenn@santee.org).  This letter of interest should clearly document significant education and experience in at least one of the three main components outlined in the position description.  All candidates chosen for interviews will be required to give a presentation to a panel.  This presentation should outline what the candidate brings to the table as well as the candidate's vision for Public Affairs at SEC.

 

Position Title:  Vice President of Public Affairs

Reports To:      President and CEO

Supervises:      All personnel associated with Government Relations, Economic Development, and Marketing functions

 

POSITION OBJECTIVE:

The purpose of this position is to ensure that Santee Electric Cooperative excels in the following three areas …

 Government Relations

Oversees SEC's lobbying functions at the local, state, and federal levels.  This includes ensuring that SEC complies with all appropriate lobbying laws.

Works closely with ECSC to ensure that we are up-to-date on all statewide GR issues (which includes making sure that SEC has a presence at all such ECSC meetings).

Oversees SEC's participation in the annual NRECA/ECSC legislative rally in Washington, D.C.

Ensures that SEC maintains a good, working relationship with all local politicians.  This includes, but is not limited to, all county, state, and federal elected officials whose constituents are also SEC member-owners.

Economic Development and Key Accounts

Maintains an excellent working relationship with all local economic development partners.  This list includes, but is not limited to, our county economic development professionals, our two regional alliances (NESA and Central SC), SC Power team, and our state's Department of Commerce.

Oversees all economic development proposals including rendering sample bills, meeting with prospects, preparing incentives packages, drafting wholesale power contracts, and all other aspects of the proposal process.

Stays up to speed on all wholesale power rates, economic development rate riders, and all sources of ED funding (including UTC, SCEDIF, and regional alliance matching monies).

Maintains an excellent relationship with all of SEC's key accounts.

Marketing

Oversees all of SEC's printed and electronic correspondence with the membership and general public.  This encompasses a great deal of communications avenues including SC Living, social media, SEC's website, and correspondence with local media.

Ensures that SEC is well-represented in a variety of local organizations (Rotary Clubs, ED Boards, Chambers of Commerce, etc.).

Oversees interaction with the membership regarding education about energy efficiency.  This includes energy audits, the Help My House program, and the Rural Energy Savings Program.

Oversees the administration of SEC's Round-Up program.

Ensures that SEC's events planning function is well run.  This includes a wide variety of regular events including our Annual Meeting, SEC's dove shoot (or similar ED/KA events), employee recognition and holiday celebration meals, the annual Friends of SEC dinner, and SEMAC meetings.  Part of this also includes managing the Conference Center and its schedule.

This list of duties and responsibilities is not intended to be all-inclusive and can be expanded to include other duties or responsibilities that management deems necessary.

INTERNAL RELATIONSHIPS:

Other Departments and Employees:  Works with all departments to plan cooperative functions and to facilitate correspondence with the membership.

EXTERNAL RELATIONSHIPS:

First and foremost: The Membership.  This includes Key Accounts.

Elected officials and economic development professionals at the local, state, and federal levels.

ECSC, Central, SC Power Team, Central SC Alliance, NESA, SC Department of Commerce.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Must live in Clarendon, Florence, Georgetown, or Williamsburg County.  Skills and knowledge normally acquired through a bachelor's degree in marketing or another business field plus 10 years of experience in one or more of the three areas listed above.  An advanced degree may be accepted in lieu of some years of experience.  Excellent Word, Excel, and Power Point skills are a necessity. The person in this position must be self-motivated with strong management skills to include administrative, interpersonal, leadership and organizational skills.  Finally, this position occupant must be an excellent communicator.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Most work is in a climate controlled office environment.  Lifting up to 25 pounds is occasionally required.
