Service is the heart of our community

Article was added on Monday, February 03, 2014

Valentine's Day could be a great holiday, but the cards, balloons, and candy cramming aisles this time of year miss the mark. I need a card for our community.

It's great to let loved ones know you care about them, but let's go a step further. As a member-owned electric cooperative, we're committed to powering our community and empowering you to improve your quality of life. One way we are doing that is through our Help My House program. This program provides free home energy audits for members concerned about high electricity bills. The program can identify and correct ways your home may be using more energy than it needs to. You may choose to pay for the necessary improvements or you can take advantage of a low 4% interest rate loan that is paid back on your monthly electric bill.

Santee Electric's Women In Rural Electrification or (WIRE) group also serves the community by spending a little time at local nursing homes each month. The ladies enjoy doing craft projects with the patience.

On February 14, take time to send a card to a police officer or firefighter. Give candy (or an apple) to a school teacher. Visit a retirement home and spend time with the folks who built our community. Send balloons-or better yet, a donation-to the United Way or your local Boys and Girls Club.

These champions are the heart of our community. The compassion many members show warms our hearts. Through the Operation Round Up program at Santee Electric, members like you are donating the left over change on your electric bill each month to strengthen our community.

Add your love-and spare change-to the effort.

Our members have rounded up their electric bills since 1993, donating more than $3.7 million to service groups, individuals and families in need across our community.

On Valentine's Day (and every day), let's celebrate service, the heart of our community.

President and Chief Executive Officer
