RATE STRUCTURE
Looking out for you through innovation.
Santee Electric Cooperative has always had one goal in mind, serving our members in the best way possible. As times change, we continue to offer innovative ways for you to take control of your electric bill. Our new rate structure reflects that goal by giving YOU control over your power bill. By reducing energy use during the Peak hours (the highest cost period per day) you can save on your power bill. Our rate structure went into effect for your August 2023 bill.
How it works:
Our structure has three parts to make up your total electric bill. You control two of the three parts, the Energy and Peak charge.
Want to save?
By simply reducing energy use during the Peak hours, you can save on your power bills.
What can you do to cut down on energy use during the peak hours?
-
Avoid using multiple big appliances at the same time (i.e. HVAC system, water heater, and clothes dryer).
-
Use your clothes dryer, dishwasher, or other high use energy appliances before or after the peak hours.
-
Limit hot water use during the peak hours. Consider placing a timer on your water heater.
-
Manually adjust or program your smart thermostat so that your HVAC system runs less during the peak hours.
What are peak hours?
Peak hours are the times during the day when demand on the system is the greatest.
There are summer and winter peak hours because of the shifts in weather throughout the year, which causes your energy use habits to change. This causes a burden on our generation transmission provider, Santee Cooper, and Santee Electric’s distribution system.
Santee Electric is a distribution cooperative. We purchase power from our supplier, and just like our members, we also pay a peak charge for our one highest peak hour in the billing cycle.
