Update on Hurricane Ian

Update on Hurricane Ian

Friday | September 30, 2022
All News

Santee Electric crews are still out addressing outages where conditions allow. This morning, Santee Cooper had a transmission outage that impacted two of our substations in the Andrews and Georgetown area. It has since been restored.

Both Santee Electric and Santee Cooper are limited by the safety ratings of the bucket trucks we all use. It is unsafe to put buckets into the air when winds are strong (due to turnover).

Rest assured your cooperative will continue addressing outages as long as it is safe.  However, there will likely be a time when we have to pull back for the safety of the linemen and restart when the winds die back down.

We have all of our employees and contractors on hand and ready to launch a full-scale restoration effort.  We also have outside crews staged around the state and in neighboring states.  All will flood into the areas that need them most once it is determined which areas were hit hardest.

We ask for your patience and for your prayers for all who must work during this storm and in Ian’s aftermath.
