Hurricane Irma update

Hurricane Irma update

As expected, Hurricane Irma has had a significant impact on the entire state of South Carolina.  Locally, approximately 11,000 of Santee Electric's members were without power at some point during this event.  I am extremely pleased to report that - despite this widespread impact - no more than 3500 of our members were out at any given time.  This is evidence of our brave linemen working to restore power even as the storm raged on.  SEC employees as well as contractors from Sumter Utilities and Jimmie's Tree Service fought all night to stay on top of these outages as they popped up.  With approximately 150 of our members still out of power, we are not finished.  We can, however, see the light at the end of the tunnel and expect the restoration process to be completed today.

We also realize that, in this case, there were other parts of our state that received more damage.  Furthermore, our nearby neighbors down in Florida have a particularly long road ahead of them.  As soon at SEC's system is restored and secured, we will be sending assistance to those in need.  We ask that you join us in praying for all of those impacted by Hurricane Irma and for the safety of all of those working to restore lives to normal.
