The Board of Trustees of Santee Electric Cooperative invites applications for the position of President and CEO. The current CEO has announced his retirement and the Board of Trustees have contracted with NRECA's Executive Search to facilitate the search process.
Santee Electric (www.santee.org) is a growing electric distribution cooperative that serves more than 40,000 accounts in 4 counties extending from Highway 301 to the Intercostal Waterway, and from the Pee Dee River to the Santee River. Santee has 130 employees, a headquarters with an additional 4 branch office locations and revenue in excess of $138 million.
Santee's mission is 'to provide quality service and products to meet the energy needs of our members at a competitive price consistent with sound business practices, while enhancing the quality of life in our service area through the support of economic, civic and educational opportunities.' Therefore, the successful candidate needs to be able to communicate effectively with a diverse membership, owners as well as with team members.
The CEO reports to a nine member board and must understand the governance structure, relationships, and accountability of the role. They are the face of the organization and ultimately represent Santee to the membership, communities and in numerous other venues and with various stakeholders. Candidate must be a proven leader of great integrity with strong management, mentoring and team building experience. Candidate must have strong business acumen reflecting their ability to grasp complex industry specific and general business practices and their impact on the membership. They must demonstrate an ability to lead the strategic, risk management, operational, engineering, technology, member service and financial planning initiatives and functions required of an electric distribution cooperative. A firm grasp of the electric utility industries' evolving legislative and regulatory challenges is critical.
Demonstrated progressive career advancement at the senior management level in the electric utility industry is required. An understanding and respect of the cooperative principles and business model is desired. The successful candidate will have excellent people skills and represent the coop well in the community. A high level of education is expected; Bachelor degree with a desire to continue learning required.
The cooperative headquarters is in Kingstree, South Carolina, a small town nestled under majestic oaks in eastern South Carolina. Kingstree is perfectly situated approximately 75 miles from Charleston, Columbia, and Myrtle Beach. Surrounded by an abundance of deer, turkey, ducks, and other wildlife, it is an outdoor paradise. The Black River runs through the community for fishing and water recreation. Kingstree is a great place to raise a family.
