Bright Ideas grants are intended to fund projects outside normal school funding limits and are available to all subject areas in grades K-12 in Williamsburg, Georgetown, Clarendon, and southern Florence counties. The grant may not be used for professional development and only certified teachers may apply. A school may submit more than one application, but a teacher is limited to one application per school year.
Over the past eleven years the program has funded everything from multicultural fairs to forensic studies of car crashes. Teachers have purchased books, ipads, cameras, Legos, robotics equipment, ukuleles and much more through the grant. One school put on a theatre production of The Wizard of Oz, while another school built a stadium entrance as part of the carpentry class.
This year applications are due on September 21st. The prize patrol will award $14,000 in grant money to winning teachers on October 29th and 30th.
