Santee Electric is keeping a close eye on reports from the CDC and other government agencies. While we currently have no plans to suspend the member service we provide in person at our five offices, we do understand that person-to-person interaction is the way the flu and coronavirus (COVID-19) are spread. We would like to encourage our members to utilize other payment options such as our kiosks (available 24/7) at each of our offices), our website (www.santee.org), calling in your payment (1-877-833-3661) and - particularly - our SmartHub app. We would also like to ask our members who are currently using this technology to reach out to a friend, neighbor, or loved one - especially those who have been labeled as more susceptible to infection (due to age or compromised immune and/or respiratory systems) by the CDC - to help them embrace these methods.
Alternative Methods of Business
- Pay by phone (1-800-922-1604)
- Kiosk available 24/7 at each office
- Website (www.santee.org)
- Smart Hub app
As you may be aware, Governor McMaster has asked utilities to suspect the practice of disconnecting services for nonpayment as long as the state of emergency (due to COVID-19) exists. Santee Electric Cooperative will, of course, comply with this request. We will suspend disconnections for both our post-pay and pre-pay retail consumers until the state of emergency is lifted.
However, it is important to note that this is NOT a request to forgive balances. SEC must purchase every kilowatt-hour we deliver to you, and, therefore, we must eventually recover these and all other costs of supplying services. All balances - including late penalties - must be paid eventually. We strongly encourage you to continue to pay your balances. The last thing we want is for you to make it through the COVID-19 emergency only to be faced with an eventual disconnection and a huge balance to be reconnected.
Please contact our office if you have any questions.
