Students at Williamsburg Academy in Kingstree recently got a special treat. Santee Electric Cooperative, Manager of Safety, Hank Williamson and other employees visited the school to teach the importance of electrical safety. About 50 fourth grade students gathered in the school's library for the hour long demonstration. At the program's conclusion, students asked questions and received a small token of appreciation for their attention and outstanding behavior. Safety demonstrations, school career fairs and vehicle days are only a few ways Santee Electric Cooperative employees comply with the 5th Cooperative Principle, Education, training and information, which states: Cooperatives provide education and training for their members, elected representatives, managers and employees so they can contribute effectively to the development of their cooperatives. They inform the general public - particularly young people and opinion leaders - about the nature and benefits of cooperation.
